S.H.I.E.L.D. starts huge, Big Bang sets record + 35 other genre shows

Another week, another big genre series premiere.

After months of anticipation and buzz, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted on ABC and didn't disappoint. The numbers were the best we've seen from a new drama series in a long time, but we'll still have to wait and see how much of that audience will hang on for the long haul. Meanwhile, Sleepy Hollow had a solid second week, Once Upon a Time returned to strong numbers, The Big Bang Theory set a new series record, and things got worse for The Neighbors

Check out the numbers and commentary below to see how your favorite shows are doing in Live + Same Day ratings.

MONDAY, September 23

Sleepy Hollow (FOX) 8.59 million viewers/3.1/8 share

Sleepy Hollow took a bit of a drop in its second week, but held on to a very healthy chunk of its premiere audience and still managed to win its timeslot in the key demo. That's a good sign for people who want this show to stick around for a while.

Marvel's big TV venture had a fantastic premiere week, pulling the highest numbers for a new drama series in nearly four years. We still have to wait and see how much of that audience it'll hold onto, and how long it'll be able to hold it, but this is an encouraging start.

WEDNESDAY, September 25

Revolution (NBC) 6.81 million viewers/1.8/6 share

Revolution returned last Wednesday for its second season, and while it managed a few more viewers than its season-one finale, its ratings score was tied with the lowest point it hit last season. That definitely doesn't doom it, but it's not a great place to start. We'll see if next week brings some improvement.

THURSDAY, September 26

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 18.99 million viewers/5.5/18 share (first episode) and 20.44 million viewers/6.1/18 share (second episode)

Nothing can slow down the hit CBS sitcom. The Big Bang Theory returned with a two-episode season-seven premiere last Thursday and flat-out trounced every other show on the air, hitting a new viewership high in the second half-hour that bested the show's previous high by nearly half a million viewers. Will this show ever start to show its age?

Elementary (CBS) 10.18 million viewers/2.1/6 share

Elementary returned Thursday to solid numbers that bested the season-one finale but were lower than most of season one at its best. We'll see if this is the new status quo, or just a slow start, in the weeks to come.

DreamWorks' Dragons: Defenders of Berk (TOON) 1.40 million viewers/0.4

Dragons held on to its demo score but lost a few viewers in its second week back, hitting its lowest viewership point ever. We'll see if that viewership decline continues.

The Neighbors (ABC) 4.06 million viewers/1.0/4 share

After hitting a series low with its season-two premiere last week, The Neighbors hit another low on Friday. It's still early, but if this keeps up there won't be a season three.
