That Barbarella TV series just got a boost (thanks to James Bond)

Last summer, it was reported that Barbarella was being adapted for the small screen, based on the sci-fi character created by Jean-Claude Forest. Barbarella headlined her own comic starting in 1962, but it wasn't until the 1968 film (and Jane Fonda's outfits) that she became an international sensation.

According to Deadline, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have been hired to write the new series. The duo's best known for scripting five films in the James Bond franchise, including The World's Not Enough, Casino Royale and Skyfall.

Barbarella will be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), who'll also executive-produce. At the moment, there's no word on what network will air the series. The show will pull more from the comic than the movie version. The flashy combination of science and sex might be too much for broadcast television. Cable may be its best bet.

So far, no casting has been announced.

Who would you like to see as the new Barbarella?
