A former Stargate SG-1 star faces a long recovery after he shattered his femur and lost massive amounts of blood in a horrific boating accident.
Corin Nemec, who starred in season six of the hit Syfy series as temporary SG-1 team member Jonas Quinn, was recently riding on a Coast Guard vehicle in Belize when it hit a partially submerged barge. Nemec was reportedly thrown into the side of the vessel, shattering his femur and losing almost half the blood in his body from his injuries. The actor was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery.
Though Nemec’s injuries were life-threatening, his condition has since stabilized, and he’s expected to make a slow but mostly full recovery. Here’s how he described the crash to a local news outlet:
"We hit the sinking barge, and that is what filled the boat to one side immediately with an enormous amount of force, and that threw me into the side of the boat where I shattered my femur in 3 places ... Everybody onboard that boat, including the gentlemen working for the Coast Guard, everyone is lucky to be alive.”
Nemec was in Belize shooting a new film called Poseidon Rex. To sci-fi fans, he is probably best known for filling Michael Shanks’ (Daniel Jackson) spot on the frontline Stargate team when the actor left the show over creative differences in season six. When Shanks eventually returned, Nemec’s character was written off via a return to his home world, but still popped up occasionally as a guest star in the final few seasons.
