1st role in King's Under the Dome show goes to Supernatural star

Considering that CBS's Under the Dome series debuts later this year, the network is ramping up casting for the new Stephen King-inspired sci-fi project. The first addition? A familiar face, at least for Supernatural fans.

Actor Colin Ford, who plays young Sam Winchester during flashbacks on the beloved CW demon-hunting series, has signed on to portray Joe in the CBS project. The character is separated from his parents when the mysterious giant dome covers their small New England town.

The 13-episode series is based on Stephen King's 2009 novel of the same name and explores the effects on a town's residents when it is completely cut off from the rest of the world by a giant dome (a la The Simpsons Movie).

Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Lost) wrote the pilot script, which will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).

The project is set to debut Monday, June 24.
