Why those Star Wars 7 plot leak rumors you heard were all wrong

Rumors have been circulating that Star Wars Episode VII's plot had been leaked. We were all abuzz about the possibility of certain expanded-universe stories that might get the movie treatment. But hold your horses—because it turns out those rumors weren't exactly true.

Let's do the tale of the tape. Reuters writer Michael McDonald wrote a piece that included what sounded like a major spoiler for the next Star Wars film, including the following:

"Yavin 4 and the rebel base return to the Star Wars plot in the forthcoming Episode VII, announced in October by the Walt Disney Co, in which Skywalker comes back to the planet to build a Jedi Knight academy. However, fans said that Disney will likely film those scenes in a studio rather than return to Tikal."

That would have been HUGE news, especially for big fans who have taken great pains to know all the ins and outs of Star Wars novels which represent the franchise's storied expanded universe. Sadly, however, McDonald misspoke after speaking with fans. Turns out he doesn't know if a Jedi Academy run by Skywalker will be in the film or not.

"This was a mistake. I misunderstood what fan clubs had told me and shown me in book plots and that storyline has not been announced by Disney. Perhaps I should have written something along the lines of 'Yavin 4 appears in several Star Wars book plots and while Guatemala fans said they hope film crews return to Tikal, the company has not announced plans for the new episode.'"

That's, sadly, a very different story than what we first heard. Unfortunate, but it happens. Back to the old rumor drawing board. Unless, of course, this is a part of the plot you desperately want to see. Then let us, and Disney, hear it.
