Forget Thrones: New Who Xmas trailer also says Winter is coming

"Winter is coming, the last winter of humankind." No, it's not Game of Thrones' Ned Stark uttering these famous words. But winter IS coming for our good old Doctor and his friends in this brand-new doom-and-gloom Doctor Who Xmas special trailer.

So let's get this out of the way first: Yes, it appears that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has been watching Game of Thrones—much as he's always liked to sprinkle Star Wars and Star Trek references here and there in previous Who episodes since the beginning of his tenure as showrunner.

Now, moving on.

Coming straight from BBC America, the new trailer offers thrills and chills aplenty for the upcoming yuletide Doctor Who Christmas special, in which the Doctor (Matt Smith) is finally joined by his new companion Clara (Jenna-Louise Coleman), as well as by our favorite Silurian, Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh).

The trailer also offers a nice look again at the creepy Ice Governess, who somewhat reminds us of that other awesome Steven Moffat creation: the Weeping Angels.

Oh, and if you look closely enough, you can also make out some of the TARDIS' new interior.

Doctor Who: "The Snowmen" premieres on Christmas Day on BBC America at 9/8c. Will you be tuning in?
