One of the most curious series coming down the pike is A&E's Psycho prequel Bates Motel, which will follow psychopath-in-training Norman Bates as a teenager. Judging by the first trailer, this could be one of the creepiest character studies of the year.
Carlton Cuse (Lost) is bringing his clout as an executive producer to the contemporary reimagining of the story, and it seems to be shaping up as a dense family drama drenched in pure creepiness. Some intriguing cast and crew interviews are interspersed along with the series footage, which reveals they definitely won't be beholden entirely to the story of Psycho.
Instead, it'll serve as a jumping-off point, perhaps in the same way that the modern-day Battlestar Galactica reboot used the original series. Ideally they'll take what worked from Psycho and wrap it up in a modern blanket—then slice it up and murder it.

The series stars Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates and Vera Farmiga as his mother Norma. The show premieres in March.
