1st Tron: Legacy actor confirms a return for long-rumored Tron 3

The possibility of a new Tron film has popped onto the radar in recent weeks, and it looks like at least one actor will return from Tron: Legacy. But who will it be?

NextMovie says it's confirmed that Garrett Hedlund will come back to play Sam Flynn in Tron 3 ... or whatever it ends up being called.

Asked about the sequel while doing press for his new movie On the Road, Hedlund said, "Are we gonna break this now?" before admitting that he was on board: "Disney's very excited ... That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited." (We're glad that Disney and you are both excited, Garrett.)

There's no word on whether director Joseph Kosinski or any other members of the cast, including Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges, will return. However, the writers of Tron: Legacy, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, recently hinted that Bridges could possibly show up—after all, does anyone truly live or die in a digital universe?

Incidentally, Kitsis and Horowitz are not scripting Tron 3; that job has gone to Eragon writer Jesse Wigutow, who is currently putting together a treatment.

Why all the activity around Tron 3 all of a sudden? Wasn't Tron: Legacy perceived as a flop? Well, it earned $400 million worldwide, including $228 million overseas, and if the published budget of $170 million is accurate, that would be enough to make Tron: Legacy slightly profitable.

So Disney seems to feel there's some life left in another visit to Flynn's Arcade, but what do you think? Are you "excited" for Tron 3 and for Garrett Hedlund to play Sam again?
