Forget Justice League—Del Toro making his own DC super-team

Will Guillermo del Toro give The Avengers and Justice League a run for their money? The director's no stranger to comic books, and has his sights set on a new breed of superhero movie.

Del Toro's Pacific Rim isn't due out till next summer, but rumor has it Warner Bros. is pleased with the early product. Apparently the robot epic is testing very well. As a reward, the studio's offering Del Toro whatever he wants as his next project.

The director's eyeing a supernatural team-up movie called Heaven Sent. It's like The Avengers but takes magical characters from DC Comics and puts them in one film. The team could consist of Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon and Etrigan the Demon.

But don't expect to see Heaven Sent anytime soon. It will take a while for Warner Bros.' lawyers to clear the rights for each character. Plus, they're still working on the Justice League, which is slated for 2015. That's the same year The Avengers 2, and Star Wars: Episode VII are set to debut. We can't imagine them trying to squeeze Heaven Sent into that timeframe.
