David Yates hopes he'll get True Blood star to say 'Me, Tarzan'

"Me Tarzan, you Jane." Looks like True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard is now the front-runner to play Edgar Rice Burroughs' famous jungle hero Tarzan in director David Yates' Tarzan film at Warner Bros.

Variety reports that the 6'4" Swedish actor is Yates' choice to play the famous apeman.

Skarsgard doesn't have an offer yet, and apparently the studio hasn't finalized casting decisions for the film. Then it has to go in front of the studio's greenlight committee.

Since the plan is to get filming started on the project during the summer of 2013, it should be greenlit by the end of the year.

Skarsgard would play John Clayton III, aka Tarzan. According to Variety:

Years after he's re-assimilated into society, he's asked by Queen Victoria to investigate the goings-on in the Congo. Tarzan teams with an ex-mercenary named George Washington Williams to save the Congo from a fierce warlord who controls a massive diamond mine.

If things go according to plans, the part of Williams should go to actor Samuel L. Jackson. The character is described as being "a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans."

Apparently Warner Bros. would be ready to approve Yates' personnal choice for his movie's leading man, since he directed the last four Harry Potter movies for them quite successfully.

Do you guys think that True Blood's Skarsgard has what it takes to play Tarzan?
