UPDATE: After the initial Deadline report broke, The Hollywood Reporter added their sources say it's a done deal for both writers. Still no word on who will write which film.
We'd heard that Disney wanted to move fast and furious with the Star Wars franchise, and now it looks like they may have a few writers in mind for the next two installments. Don't worry, sci-fi fans—they're both familiar faces.
Deadline is reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm are in talks with Star Wars vet Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) and X-Men alum Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: First Class) to potentially write Star Wars Episodes 8-9.
Both have proven they can pen quality sci-fi, but for nostalgia's sake alone you have to hope that Kasdan stays in the mix.
It looks like Disney might keep up with that plan to crank out at least one Lucasfilm flick per year, and it's not a shock to hear they're mixing it up from Episode 7 writer Michael Arndt to have scripts coming together simultaneously to streamline the workflow.
We're definitely curious to see if one of these two (or even both) end up working on a future Star Wars flick. What do you think? Would you be happy with these options?
