You can thank Buffy's Xander for that Avengers shawarma scene

Remember that weird, random "shawarma" line in The Avengers that sets up the even weirder post-credits scene? Well, we finally figured out where Joss Whedon got the idea—former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Nicholas Brendon.

It always comes back to Buffy, doesn't it?

Joss Whedon has gone on to mainstream fame as Marvel's new guru, but it seems he's still mining the old low-budget days from the series that made him a geek icon for quirky ideas to fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Turns out Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) wasn't the first one to have the idea to go out for some delicious shawarma after a hard day at work.

According to an unearthed DVD extra from the old Buffy Chosen Collection, it was actually Brendon, who starred as Xander for seven seasons on the show, who first pitched Whedon to go chow down on the meaty meal.

That craving is also the last bit of quirky that clinched Brendon the role of Xander.
