Weirdest cameo ever confirmed for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit

In what could be one of the most intriguing cameos ever, it seems a popular TV show host is among the latest additions to the expansive cast of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central's hilarious Colbert Report, apparently managed to score a cameo in one of the upcoming Hobbit sequels after visiting the set last year. Still no word on what role he will have, though we're definitely curious to see how he pops up.

The actor teased his appearance in an interview with Playboy, responding "could be" when asked if we'll be able to spot him on screen. From there The Hollywood Reporter apparently did a little digging and confirmed he'll have some type of small role in at least one of the films.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens Dec. 14, with Desolation of Smaug following on Dec. 13, 2013 and There and Back Again on July 18, 2014.

What role do you think he'll have? Just a background role, or might he be host of a Colbert-esque series in Middle-earth?
