Denny's thinks you'll be willing to drink a Bilbo's Berry Smoothie

There are a lot of tie-ins you can expect to see when a very, very merchandise-friendly flick like The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey heads to theaters. You expect toys, T-shirts, posters, maybe even Happy Meal toys. But did you see a complete Hobbit-themed Denny's menu coming? Yeah ... neither did we.

Oh yeah, this is really happening. Beginning Nov. 6, the restaurant chain known as "America's Diner" will launch an 11-item breakfast, lunch and dinner menu tied in to The Hobbit's Dec. 14 release. Dishes include "Bilbo's Berry Smoothie," "Radagast's Red Velvet Pancake Puppies" and "Lonely Mountain Treasure" (which looks like a kind of French toast cake with dipping sauce), "Frodo's Pot Roast Skillet," "Gandalf's Gobble Melt" (which we're guessing includes turkey) and "Hobbit Hole Breakfast" (because doesn't that sound appetizing?).

The dishes will also include promotional items like Hobbit-themed trading cards and QR codes on your Denny's placemat, which you can scan to unlock exclusive content via your smartphone.

According to AdAge, Denny's chose to work with the film because, among other things, hobbits gets two breakfasts every day.

"We just felt with the two breakfasts that whole notion of comfort eating and comfort food" were a fit for Denny's, said Frances Allen, CMO at the restaurant chain. She added that The Hobbit has a huge following "across a broad spectrum of people," including families and millennials, which are Denny's top targets.
