Beetlejuice, Slimer + 9 more goofy ghosts from horror films and TV
Ghost stories have been scaring people for centuries, and ghost movies have been doing the same for decades. But all ghosts aren't created equal. For all the creepy specters haunting our houses and burial grounds, there are also a fair share of much more lame spirits giving them a bad name.
No, ghosts in TV and film are definitely not created equal, and for every American Horror Story freaking us completely out, there's likely an equally cheesy ghost tale waiting in the wings.

Casper, Casper
Yes, heâs supposed to be a friendly ghost. But Casper is just a disappointment to the undead haunting community. Heâs just too darn cute.
Slimer, Ghostbusters
One of the most famous ghosts out there, the big green pile of ectoplasm was featured in everything from the Ghostbusters films, and took on a cuddlier design in the cartoon series. Sure, he could goo you pretty good, but heâs more goofy than terrifying.
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice
Michael Keatonâs defining role for a whole generation of teens and kids, the shady Beetlejuice is the coolest, silliest dead con-man around. The live-action version at least took him somewhat seriously, though the early 1990s cartoon made him even sillier.
Elliot Hooper, Ghost Dad
This critically panned Bill Cosby vehicle from the early 1990s featured Cosby as a late father, who realizes he can communicate with his kids from the great beyond. Itâs pretty terrible, with Cosby put into some comedic, ghost-y situations.
Ghosts, Scooby Doo (2002)
The live action Scooby-Doo was a nightmare (not in a good way), and though it was mostly meant for kids, the ghosts and monsters were some of the weakest to grace the silver screen.
Frankâs ghost gang, The Frighteners
A forgotten gem from the early days of Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) this Michael J. Fox ghost flick is a fun, creepy romp through the supernatural. The best part? Frankâs (Fox) gang of funny ghost pals, who help him scam unsuspecting locals with fake âhauntings.â
Kate, Over Her Dead Body
This one was a pretty big flop, featuring Eva Longoria as Kate, a woman who dies on her wedding day, then proceeds to haunt her former fiancee and his new girlfriend. Oh, and itâs a comedy, and Longoria makes a terrible ghost.
Warren, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Yes, Warrenâs appearance as a âghostâ actually turned out to be The First Evil manipulating Andrew into opening the Hellmouth, but câmon, itâs close enough. Warren was best known as a member of the trio of geeks who made Buffyâs life a living hell in season six, and all three of those guys were pretty goofy.
Ghosts, The Haunted Mansion
This stinker, based on the Disney park ride and starring Eddie Murphy, was just not a good movie. Yes, it was mostly meant for a younger audience, but everything was pretty silly about this one—including the mostly mediocre ghosts.
Bobby, Supernatural
Yes, itâs a fairly dark show that usually delivers the chills. But, when fan favorite father-figure Bobby bites the dust he ends up as a ghost out helping/haunting the Winchester brothers. Itâs sad, but Jim Beaverâs portrayal is delivered with a sad, goofy charm that just works.
Grandma, Paranorman
This recent CGI stop-motion horror comedy wasnât a bad movie at all, and one of the stand out reasons was the awesome ghost of Grandma, who brought some goofy levity to the flick.
