Arrow producer explains the real reason he cast John Barrowman

We don't know about you, but we were pretty darn excited when we learned Captain Jack Harkness himself, actor John Barrowman, had been cast on The CW's new series Arrow. But now we learn his being cast on the show may have had a little something to do with a tiny U.K. sci-fi show he co-starred in ...

The former Doctor Who and Torchwood star is set to appear as the ''well-dressed man'' in The CW's newest superhero drama series.

Arrow producer Andrew Kreisberg told Collider about casting Barrowman on the show:

"I'm a lifelong Doctor Who fan — like Peter Davison / Colin Baker lifelong fan. So, when John Barrowman's name came up for this part... I basically laid out the plan that we had for his character, and who he is and how he relates to everybody and what's going on, because we didn't have a lot written.

"I said, 'So, I guess I'm asking you to take a leap of faith'. He said [John Barrowman], 'It's funny, seven years ago, [former Who showrunner] Russell T Davies told me to take a leap of faith with him, and I hear your passion and creativity the way I heard his. So, let's do it!' That was the best phone call I've ever gotten."

Kreisberg also added that Barrowman's role on Arrow is different from his character of Captain Jack Harkness, adding "He's just such a tremendously talented actor, and [his casting is] one of the things we're most proud of with the show,"

Kreisberg's fellow producer Marc Guggenheim calls Barrowman "incredibly magnetic and incredibly charming."

However, unlike Kreisberg, Guggenheim has never seen Torchwood:

"I'll be honest, I haven't seen Torchwood and, not having seen him in Torchwood... I come to his performance on my own terms," he explained. "[John] lights up the screen and he really energises the actors that he has scenes with."

Are you all looking forward to Barrowman's appearance on the CW's Arrow as the ''well-dressed man''?
