8 undead animals prove reanimation ain't always such a good idea
When Frankenweenie opens today, audiences will get all misty seeing Victor resurrect his precious pup. But bringing something back to life often has nightmarish consequences. For the fifth in our series of 31 Days of Halloween features, check out this gruesome gallery of Hollywood's zombie critters that shoulda stayed dead.
You gotta love cinema's well-trodden trick of hauling out a menagerie of innocent pets and creatures to restore God's gift after the reaper comes calling. Tinkering with creation tends to bring out the worst in all parties, and any triumphant comeback from the afterlife usually ends in bad dreams and buckets of blood. Reanimation in horror flicks is never pretty, as seen in these eight ugly accidents featuring unholy kitties, deranged sheep and one seriously homicidal rooster.
Remember the immortal words of Pet Sematary's Jud Crandall—sometimes, dead is better.
Take a look and you decide.

PET SEMATARY (1989)
Church the cat proves beyond a doubt that zombie felines resurrected in Indian burial grounds do not make adorable pets. So much for the nine lives thing.
THE THING (1982)
Siberian huskies eaten and absorbed by an alien entity rarely win ribbons at dog shows. But they're definitely weird and pissed off.
ZOMBEAK (2006)
Hell is hatched when rednecks and satanists accidentally restore life to a sacrificed chicken. Evil is most fowl.
BLACK SHEEP (2006)
Mutant zombie sheep from New Zealand aren't out to make friends. But they would like to make a tasty meal out of you. What ensues is shear terror.
RESIDENT EVIL: APOCALYPSE (2004)
In the Resident Evil realms, these t-virus-infected zombie dogs are pretty nasty and can run down a screaming human in seconds. Hold your throats.
THE BONEYARD (1991)
Any movie with a maniacal Phylis Diller AND a bloodthirsty zombie poodle is a priceless gem. Keep telling yourself - It's only a poodle. Rinse - Fluff - Repeat.
POULTRYGEIST (2006)
From the fab folks at Troma Entertainment. A fast-food chicken chain built on Indian burial grounds spawns undead chickens from hell. Regular and skinless.
RE-ANIMATOR (1985)
Poor Rufus the cat will not be doing the tango anytime soon. Herbert West's twice-revived black tabby just needs a little love and some catnip... or an exorcism.
