Why Tim Burton expects to be surprised by Beetlejuice 2 script

Will a sequel to Tim Burton's Beetlejuice ever get made? A new film is supposedly in the works, with Burton and Winona Ryder open to returning. But before we jump for joy, we've just got word from the director regarding Beetlejuice round two.

While promoting his latest film, Frankenweenie, Burton was asked the big question: When will we see Beetlejuice again? According to him, the film's future is all about the screenplay. Like us, he's waiting for a good story to expand upon what he created nearly 25 years ago. He wants some classic shock and awe.

"Right now, the writer is writing something and I have no idea when it's coming; I have no expectations," said Burton. "I didn't give him too much direction because I want to try to not have a lot of preconceived ideas about it. Sometimes you want to be surprised. But I love the character and if it's a good script, then great. But there's no point really for me thinking about it until I see it."

Aside from Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder was a key part of Beetlejuice's success. So would she be interested in slipping back into Lydia Deetz's Gothic shoes? The actress replied, "I've heard it's being written, but that's all I know. So yeah ... I guess it would be great if it happens."
