With news that Joss Whedon is now working with Marvel and ABC to bring a S.H.I.E.L.D. series to the small screen, there's been a burning question at the back of our minds: Could a small door have been opened for actor Clark Gregg to return?
So, you guys all know by now that SPOILERS S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson bit the dust thanks to Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in this summer's hit film The Avengers.
But there have been some theories floating around that he isn't actually really dead, or that it isn't even the real Phil Coulson we saw die in the film. Some fans have even been clamoring for the actor to return as the android Vision for the Avengers sequel that's coming up in 2015.
Now that there's a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show in the works, however, how about having Coulson come back to the small screen?
Speaking to Movies.com, Gregg said:
"I don't know if we'll see Agent Coulson again, but I certainly do his voice in their animated series, The Ultimate Spider-Man, and you never know, there may be a flashback or something some time," Gregg told us. "I really hit it off with those guys [at Marvel], and I've talked to them lately about some ways I can continue to work with them, perhaps as a writer or director."
When it was mentioned that Agent Coulson would have been perfect for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, Clark Gregg said:
"You know what, that was the moment when I went, 'Great, they're doing the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show and I'm on a slab!'"
As far as the Vision goes, Gregg says he's seen the rumors online and finds the images of Coulson as the Vision "hilarious" and "actually really moving."
He adds ...
"You know the Vision is synthetic with a soul, sort of, and he's an amazing character who I loved when I used to read those comics. I love the idea of Coulson as that guy, but I don't know if that's in the cards."
Would you like to see Clark Gregg return in some capacity in the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series? How do you think it could be done?
