Looks like Catwoman could join Thor in Spielberg's Robopocalypse

Earlier this year we heard that Steven Spielberg was after the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, to save the Earth from a Robopocalypse. Now it seems he's after more comic book talent, this time of a feline persuasion.

Deadline's Mike Fleming reported yesterday that Spielberg is after Anne Hathaway to star opposite Hemsworth in the upcoming flick based on Daniel H. Wilson's bestselling novel. But he also reported that DreamWorks and co-producer Twentieth Century Fox denied those rumors the last time he asked, so it's anyone's guess whether this will actually stick.

In the meantime, there's one new addition to the Robopocalypse crew that actually is official. Tom Rothman, the longtime president of Fox Filmed Entertainment who announced that he's leaving the company at year's end, has just signed up to produce the flick alongside Spielberg.

"When someone like Tom is a free agent, you snatch him up fast," Spielberg said in a press release announcing Rothman's involvement. "He has proven himself to be a necessity of this industry. At Fox he had already been an enthusiastic partner on Robopocalypse, and it is to our advantage that he would come produce this film with me. Tom has been a wonderful friend and colleague over the years and DreamWorks is incredibly lucky to have him on board."

So the confirmed talent on this film is now Spielberg, Rothman and Lost and Cabin in the Woods co-writer Drew Goddard, who took on the screenplay. That's already an impressive genre movie pedigree, but add in the possibility of Hemsworth and Hathaway (who silenced a lot of naysayers and proved she's a genre film force with her acclaimed performance in The Dark Knight Rises) co-headlining this one and you've got an irresistible prospect for the 2014 blockbuster slate.

What do you think? Would you want to watch a Thor/Catwoman pairing in the midst of a robot uprising?
