Here's how to watch the pilot for ABC's Last Resort free online

As we noted in our Fall TV Preview this week, ABC's new thriller Last Resort is one of the most promising shows of the 2012-2013 TV season, a big idea with a big cast that could pack a big punch. The show doesn't premiere until Sept. 27, but now you can watch the pilot two weeks early.

While it's too soon to tell how much science fiction there'll be in the show, the concept does pack a big speculative punch, asking a big and dangerous question: What happens when the crew of a nuclear submarine go rogue and declares themselves a new nation? Here's the synopsis and cast list:

"What happens when one of the most powerful U.S. subs on Earth is given a suspicious order to fire its nuclear weapons at Pakistan? When Capt. Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) refuses to fire without confirmation, XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) is put in charge. However, when he refuses the order too, the U.S. Colorado is fired upon. Chaplin and Kendal go on the run with the sub and end up at an exotic island. Realizing there must be a conspiracy at the very depths of the U.S government, Chaplin takes drastic action to protect himself and his crew. The crew of the Colorado take refuge on the island hoping that one day they can clear their names and get home to their families. The series also stars Robert Patrick, Dichen Lachman, Autumn Reeser, Camille de Pazzis and Daisy Betts."

Sounds intense, right? We're definitely sold, and now you can decide for yourself. Yahoo! just put the full pilot episode up online for the world to see, so if you've got time and you feel like getting a sneak peek at a big new series, check it out right here.

If you watched it, what did you think? Can this show be as big a hit for ABC as Lost?

Last Resort premieres Thursday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. Eastern.
