It's really happening. After five seasons, Fringe will come to an end. Executive producer J.H. Wyman has just announced the date of the series finale. So long, Olivia, Peter, Walter and the rest of the Fringe Division.
Earlier this year, Fringe was renewed for a fifth season, consisting of 13 episodes. And according to Wyman, the series finale will air Feb. 1, 2013. Fox hasn't confirmed the date, but we assume Wyman's right on the money.
Back in July, Fox President Kevin Reilly predicted the show would end sooner. "There's probably going to be a few interruptions, but not many," he said at the network's Television Critics Association press tour. "Just the holidays. [The series] will end in Jan."
It doesn't matter if it's Jan. or Feb., it's still too soon for our taste. The finale will be written and directed by Wyman, who has a good four months before the show's farewell.
Fringe returns Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
