Is Bradley Cooper still passionate about that Hyperion movie?

Bradley Cooper's been desperately trying to turn Dan Simmons' Hyperion into a movie. The award-winning novel is a bit of an obsession for him. But after a year of waiting, is Hyperion still on Cooper's radar?

Hyperion is described as "heady science-fiction about travelers to another planet who all have secrets, stories that explain why they're on this particular pilgrimage to this particular place, and the way the stories are teased out and explained is both intellectually satisfying and emotionally devastating."

That's a lot of ground to cover in a feature film. Even though he co-wrote a spec script for the movie, Cooper doesn't consider himself a writer. He says, "Hyperion is such a specific thing that I just fell in love with."

He continues, "[After reading the four books in the series] I said, 'Why haven't they made this into a movie?' And then I did a little research and found out that Graham King had the rights. James Cameron toyed with it, with Leo [DiCaprio] for a while and then he decided to make Avatar. So I walked into Graham King's office and pitched to him. 'Can you let us take a crack at this?' I think they were amazed that we read the whole thing and can actually talk about it intelligently. It's just been a wild ride. It's been a lot of fun."

Even though the producers are dragging their feet. Cooper still has that fire in his belly. With an outlook like that, Hyperion: The Movie will always be a possibility.
