The extras just keep on coming in the lead-up to the release of The Avengers on Blu-ray next month, and today we've got something particularly intriguing. It's a scene that Joss Whedon originally intended to use as the film's opening, but it actually takes place after that epic battle. Check it out.
The scene stars Cobie Smulders as agent Maria Hill, and it opens with shots of devastation in New York City. Hill is being interrogated by a group of unseen people that we can guess are the same shadowy world leaders that spoke to Nick Fury several times throughout the movie. The gravity of the situation forces Hill to open up about her feelings toward Fury and Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and she makes it clear that her role in this fight was much more complicated than we thought.
The scene definitely would have set a different tone had it opened the flick rather than the epic outer-space sequence followed by Loki's attack on the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. It's darker and more dramatic right away, because you're given a more human perspective on what's about to happen, and it adds another layer of tension that would have been ever present in the Helicarrier.
Check out the scene below and see for yourself.
