Why Matt Smith has decided to remain on Who until at least 2014

Can we have a "Geronimo!"? Because Matt Smith has revealed that he'll stay put as the Eleventh Doctor for at least another two years, which means we'll have more timey-wimey adventures, bow ties, fezzes, Jammie Dodgers and Stetsons with his Time Lord until 2014—and he also explained why.

The fact that Smith is staying on Doctor Who until 2014 for the show's eighth season obviously means he'll survive all those anniversary specials—and for those who sorta, kinda were expecting a big, whopping regeneration, well, we won't get the Twelfth Doctor just yet.

Which is cool with us, 'cause we really like Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor.

So why is Matt Smith staying put until at least 2014?

The Sun reports that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has convinced the 29-year-old actor to stay on as Doctor numero Eleven by creating a "brilliant" eighth series/season.

Matt Smith said:

"His first episode sounds great.

"It hasn't been written yet but the idea is as brilliant and as mental as you'd expect from Steven. So there's a lot to look forward to.

"When Steven was going to pitch the next season to me not long ago, he said, 'Are you ready to cry?'"

Cry? Yep, Mr. Moffat, we're ready to cry with the Doctor, and we do love ourselves a bit of manly tears once in a while, so we say bring it on, Smith and Moffat, bring it on.

Matt Smith is now currently hard at work on the Christmas special, which will introduce Jenna-Louise Coleman as his new companion Clara, but he will start filming all those Doctor Who 50th-anniversary celebrations specials later in the fall.

Smith said:

"We want to do 50 years—and everyone that's been associated with the show—justice. We want to go, 'Look, world, here is Doctor Who. It's 50 years old, a science-fiction show, still going and going from strength to strength'.

"Steven will do something brilliant. He'll do something grand or maybe something very simple but he'll come to it as a fan.

"He'll go, 'What would I want to see?'"

So what would you want to see? And are you guys happy/sad/relieved/mad to know that Matt Smith will stay put as the Eleventh Doctor until at least the eight season of Doctor Who?
