4 possible names for Hobbit 3 revealed as New Line registers titles

Yesterday, we learned that New Line had gone ahead and registered eight new domains for its third Hobbit film. Now we've learned that the studio has also registered four new film titles. The plot thickens.

According to a One Ring.net spy called Thrush, New Line has registered the following film titles:

They are (drum roll, please):

The Desolation of Smaug

The Battle of Five Armies

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies

This, according to The One Ring.net, doesn't mean that New Line will use any of these titles, since studios are in the habit of registering multiple film titles. Also, because they HAVE to register the title they'll eventually use, they splurge a bit and register more film titles than they need. You know, just in case they change their minds.

BUT we think that The Battle of Five Armies has a MUCH better ring than yesterday's The Riddles in the Dark domain option—but who knows? Maybe, just maybe, this means they may go ahead and change either the first or second film's title.

And, lo and behold! The Desolation of Smaug is still a strong contender for that third Hobbit film's title.

The question is: Which one shall it be?

In the meanwhile, have a look at two cool fan-made versions of the movie titles.

So, which one do you guys prefer? Do you think Peter Jackson and company should go for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies or The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug?
