Watch Joss Whedon fight a monster in 4-min short written by a kid

Joss Whedon is the creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse, writer and director of The Avengers, a living geek legend and one of the most sought-after filmmakers in the world right now. But today he may have met his match in the form of a massive monster straight from the mind of a 5-year-old boy.

Whedon's usually the guy behind the camera, but today he lends his acting talents to "Scary Smash," a short film about a monster that terrorizes a town. Based on a story by a boy named Brett, the film is the first episode of the new web series "Written by a Kid," the latest addition to Whedon collaborator Felicia Day's YouTube channel Geek & Sundry.

Brett himself narrates the story of Gerald (Whedon), an intrepid SWAT team captain with a cool cowboy hat and lots of weapons who must take down a giant red monster with all sorts of frightening powers. The battle takes seven days and uses every weapon in his arsenal, but Gerald just won't give up. The short also stars Dave Foley as an unfortunate milkman and Kate Micucci as a nice lady who helps Gerald battle the monster. Also be on the lookout for Day in a brief cameo.

Check out the video below. We love most everything Whedon does, but he's probably never made anything this adorable in his entire career, and it's amazingly cool that he took time to be in this kid's movie.
