Why is Arrow not Smallville? Star says the difference is murder

Once Smallville's lengthy run finally came to an end, no one was really surprised to hear that The CW had greenlit a series based on fellow superhero the Green Arrow. But though both might come from the same DC Comics canon, Green Arrow star Stephen Amell says that's where the similarities begin and end. Spoilers ahead!

In an interview with the Toronto Star, Amell touches on everything from how he learned to use a bow and arrow to his training regimen. But the most interesting tidbit came up while discussing how the show is not like Smallville.

Apparently, at some point early in the pilot, Oliver Queen (Amell) kills someone with his bare hands to ensure his secret identity remains a secret.

Brutal murder by the show's "hero"? Yeah, this is definitely not Smallville here. Everyone's been saying they wanted to go a lot darker than Clark Kent's young adventures, and it definitely sounds like the pilot at least fits the bill.
