In honor of Flag Day today, we've pulled together a list of some of the most famous fictional flags that have popped up in sci-fi and fantasy films and on TV in recent years.

Considering how important world-building is to science fiction, half the fun of watching a TV show or movie is seeing the cool (and sometimes weird) flags the creators whip up to make the world feel a little bit more tangible.

Some work out better than others, but it's always interesting to see what comes together for alt-Americas and alien races.
