Bizarre plot detail emerges about that new Mortal Kombat movie

Some new details have finally come to light about that near-forgotten new Mortal Kombat flick—and it seems the darker, grittier take on the classic fighting franchise is in for a WTF twist.

The project is being developed by Kevin Tancharoen, the man behind the pretty awesome web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, but according to a new synopsis it seems his big-screen version may not be the same world we saw in Legacy.

Here's the reported synopsis, per Bloody-Disgusting:

"The live-action reboot will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is."
The idea is admittedly a little weird, but it seems Tancharoen is using an Average Joe to introduce viewers to the world of Mortal Kombat, as opposed to just jumping right in like the cheesily awesome 1995 film based on the videogame.

Legacy was pretty great, so we're willing to give Tancharoen the benefit of the doubt—but we're definitely curious to see where this is going.

Sound off: Are you looking forward to meeting the new, superpowered supermarket employee?
