1st official Doctor Who pic of Matt Smith AND his new Companion

The BBC has released the very first official image of Matt Smith's Doctor—who is sporting a brand-new Time Lord-y outfit, no less — standing alongside his new companion Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. Yup, it needs to be said: bow ties are still cool.

What we think is particularly exciting about the new pic—besides all the fuzzy Who goodness it's giving us right now—is that it may be telling us that the new costume we already spotted Smith wearing here could be a more permanent change for our beloved Mad Man in the Big Blue Box.

Here's the BBC's statement:

We caught up with Matt Smith who told us, "It [filming on the new series] is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show—one which I think is very interesting."

Shooting is well-underway for the Doctor's latest adventures and the second read-through featuring Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion took place earlier this week at the BBC's Roath Lock Studios.

So, what do you think of the new pic and about the Doctor's brand-new costume? Is Coleman cute as a button or what? We're really looking forward to see what she'll bring to the TARDIS ... are you? Or does this picture—and the way it underlines the fact that we won't be seeing Amelia Pond any more—just make you a little sad?
