J.J. Abrams' old writing buddies have been busy lately, and now Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have signed on to reboot two classic monster movie franchises—and they're apparently bringing Tom Cruise along for the ride.
Orci and Kurtzman (Star Trek, Lost, Transformers) recently signed a deal with Universal Pictures, giving them access to reboot classic franchises The Mummy and Van Helsing.
A Mummy revival series, starring Brendan Fraser, only recently concluded; and this will be the second recent attempt to revive Van Helsing, following the awful 2004 effort with Hugh Jackman in the title role.
The Van Helsing reboot seems the most interesting, with Tom Cruise attached to star. Cruise has been trying to get Van Helsing made since 2010, but after director Guillermo Del Toro dropped out, the project was put on the back burner.
Orci and Kurtzman have a lot on their plate these days, and are also attached to the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Star Trek 2.
Sound off: Are you excited to hear the hit-making duo is tackling some classic monster movies?
