1st look at scarred Lena Headey as Dredd's scary big bad Ma-Ma

If you're not excited enough about Dredd—you know, the sci-fi movie based on the legendary Judge Dredd comics and starring Star Trek pretty boy Karl Urban (who totally looks badass as Dredd in the pics so far)—then feast your eyes on this up-close-and-personal first look at the usually gorgeous and luminous Lena Headey as the film's big bad villain Madeline "Ma-Ma" Madrigal.

The scarred look the former Sarah Connor actress is sporting in the upcoming sci-fi film is definitely a far cry from the beautiful and scheming half of the now-famous twincest power couple—Cersei Lannister—Headey portrays on Game of Thrones.

But then, her character is described as an "obese septuagenarian with heavy scarring"—according to the script, that is.

Guess they totally threw the "obese septuagenarian" bit out the window. Not that anyone really minds about that, no?

This is how Lena Headey describes her character:

She's a prostitute who then kills her pimp and takes over his drug-running business. And Ma-Ma is a bit of a man-hater. I think of her like an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her. She's ready for it. In fact, she can't wait for it to happen. And yet no one can get the job done. She's an addict, so she's dead in that way, but that last knock just hasn't come. This big, fat, scarred shark moving through the sea and everyone flees and she's like, 'Will someone just have the balls to do it? Please?'

Dredd (NOT a remake of Sylvester Stallone's "dreadful" [yeah, we went there] 1995 film Judge Dredd) will apparently take place over a very short period of time, with most of the action set around more or less a city block.

Sounds pretty damned cool to us.

So what do you guys think of Lena Headey's heavily scarred look? Think the actress has what it takes to face off against Karl Urban's Judge Joseph Dredd?

Dredd will be released in theaters on Sept. 21, 2012
