We just recently got our first look at the time-travel noir flick Looper, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, and now director Rian Johnson has sat down to explain exactly what was going in the first twisty trailer.

Johnson did a revealing shot-by-shot breakdown of the trailer over at MTV, where he talks about everything from the wild action scenes to his take on the near future.

Looper follows an assassin (Gordon-Levitt) who is charged with killing his future self (Willis). The film is set to open on Sept. 28.
