Could Capt. Jack be the 12th Doctor? John Barrowman has a theory

Doctor Who fan favorite John Barrowman has always been vocal about wanting to reprise his role as Captain Jack Harkness, whether it's on Who itself or the spinoff series Torchwood. Fans have even suggested he could be the Doctor one day, and after hearing the suggestion, Barrowman has an idea as to how that might happen.

During an interview at the C2E2 convention in Chicago, Barrowman was told that he'd been placed on a list of the top 10 candidates to replace Matt Smith as the 12th Doctor. He grinned and thanked his "geek family," joking that "checks are in the mail." But then he actually thought about it. Here's what he came up with:

"That is awesome. How would that work? Captain Jack, he is a Time Agent, and he is immortal, but he doesn't regenerate, he just doesn't age in the way that everybody else does, or ages very slowly. So it could work. They could find out that he has another heart, and they could find out that he is a Time Lord. See, I'm already writing the fan fiction in my head."

Now, we don't think that Barrowman is about to go leaping for Matt Smith's job, but it is an intriguing idea, if only for the hypothetical fun we can have with it. After all, Jack's immortality was brought about by the energy of the TARDIS in the first place, so maybe there is some sort of wibbley-wobbley, timey-wimey way of making him at least a kind of hybrid Time Lord based on that exposure.

What do you think? Could Captain Jack conceivably be the Doctor, or at least a Doctor?
