Mind-bending Fringe clip reveals there ain't no Batman 'Over There'

A pretty funny new clip from Friday's new episode of Fringe gives us some insight into the alt-universe's biggest superhero—and it's apparently not someone you'd likely be too familiar with.

In the clip, featuring a conversation between Lincoln, Alt-Lincoln (Seth Gabel) and alt-Olivia (Anna Torv), Lincoln makes a Batman joke that no one seems to get.

Apparently Batman is not a well-known comic book hero over there. After he describes the character—"billionaire playboy who puts on a cape to clean up the streets"—alt-Olivia chimes in to tell him he is, apparently, talking about Mantis (apparently not DC's humanoid insect of the same name that we have over here, judging by the origin tales).

What's odd, though, is that a season-two episode showing off some of young Peter's (Joshua Jackson) comic books over there seemed to include what looked conspicuously like a Batman, including a comic with a (slightly tweaked) version of the iconic Bat-logo.

It never explicitly says Batman, but it looks a heck of a lot like him. So who knows?

Anyway, check out the clip below.

What do you think? Is there still a Batman over there, just an (apparently) very obscure version of him? Or were those Bat-esque comics from season two just Mantis in disguise?
