11 real-life sci-fi photos we trusted that turned out to be faked
Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files returns to Syfy next Tuesday at 9/8C featuring investigators getting to the heart of modern mysteries. To get us ready for the season premiere, we found 11 well-known photographs of the cryptic and paranormal, all of which were later determined to have been altered.
Unless these photos were altered in the way that Marty Mcfly's photo of his family got altered, they were all totally faked.

Battle for Los Angeles
This photo was darkened and severely retouched to make anti aircraft fire look like a UFO. Of course, this was back when gunfire was a newsworthy thing in Los Angeles.
The Cottingley Fairies
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was convinced that this picture was the real deal. Which just shows you that men had access to crazy drugs one hundred years ago.
Alien Autopsy
This shot was taken from a highly watched show broadcast on the Fox Network in 1995. Which is why the government wants to cover it all up: to avoid extremely poor quality television specials.
Petit-Rechain Black Triangle UFO
Taken during a wave of UFO sightings in Belgium in 1990. We also would have believed it is the face of Elvis on a black tortilla chip.
UFO Over Car
Billy Meier has spent his life making fake photographs in an attempt to convince people of the existence of UFOs. We were on the fence about aliens, but this embellished garbage can lid convinced us.
Wem Fire Apparition
This photo sparked a ghost frenzy in 1995 until shown to be altered 15 years later. Although, being fake would be the perfect alibi for a ghost arsonist.
Hook Island Sea Monster
The scariest aspect of this beast is the notion that it might only be a tadpole. Or perhaps it's that no one is bothering to warn that boater.
El Chupacabra
We don't speak fluent Spanish, but we assume that "El Chupacabra" means "a thing that looks like a decomposing coyote."
Loch Ness Monster
Made from a toy submarine, this photo fooled experts for 40 years. Which just proves that those who can't make cryptids get jobs where they analyze cryptids and determine them to be real.
Greys in the Garden
This early 2000s photo makes us wonder: Was anyone else sorely misled by the title of the TV show, Grey's Anatomy?
Penthouse Magazine Alien
Trust us, if you were an alien you would think this is a really hot naked photo.
