Look which long-lost Walking Dead survivor is coming back in S3

Considering that the world is overrun by bloodthirsty zombies, it's no surprise that characters come and go on AMC's hit series The Walking Dead. But at least one long-absent survivor has revealed he will be back in season three.

Michael Rooker, who plays the hard-edged racist Merle, spilled that he has been booked for a return appearance on The Walking Dead while promoting another project, Daily Dead reports.

Rooker apparently said he's dropped 20 pounds for the part, so who knows how this could play out once the show returns in October. Is he a prisoner? On the run?

Plus, there's no telling what effect his return will have on his brother Daryl (Norman Reedus), who is finally starting to grow into a leader among the survivors. I can't wait to find out.

It'll be interesting to see some old faces popping up, especially now that some space has recently opened up on the cast.

Merle was last seen alive during season one in Atlanta, after being left handcuffed on the roof of a building. He cut off his own hand to escape, and barring a fever dream hallucination by his brother Daryl in season two, hasn't been heard from since.

Sound off: Are you looking forward to Merle's return?
