Get a good look at S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier in new Avengers footage

We've seen the iconic S.H.I.E.L.D. ship appear in The Avengers already, but only through those flashy, fast-cutting trailers. Not that we're complaining about the trailers, but it'd be nice to stop and look around for a second. Thankfully, new behind-the-scenes footage from the set lets us do just that.

Entertainment Tonight just released new clips from its visit to the Avengers set, and it looks like everything they were allowed to shoot is on the helicarrier. Joss Whedon and company used six soundstages at a New Mexico studio to construct the flying headquarters, and if you look past the cast in this video, you'll see that it was worth taking up all that space.

It's the same helicarrier we've seen in the trailers, but the details only make it more impressive. The control room is a massive, two-story structure packing in dozens of work stations for S.H.I.E.L.D. lackeys, and every one of them seems to have a real working screen (and one of those comfy ergonomic chairs). We also get a better look at the massive helicarrier corridors and all the detail they're filled with.

The Avengers cost boatloads to make, and this set is part of the reason why. Sure, it didn't cost as much as packing Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner AND Samuel L. Jackson in the same movie, but if the trailers are any indication, the helicarrier is the place where most of the "assembling" will take place with this team. It was worth getting right, and from what we've seen, they nailed it.
