Alcatraz creators tease the mastermind who's really behind it all

The season is winding down for Fox's Alcatraz. The drama has only three more episodes before the finale, and lots of questions need to be answered. Luckily, the producers and writers have decided to give us a hint as to who's pulling the strings. Is it the warden, Tommy, or the convicts themselves?

Alcatraz executive producer Jennifer Johnson joined writer-creators Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt in Anaheim for WonderCon 2012. They spoke to fans about the final action-packed episodes of the drama that will leave them on the edge of their seats.

They confirmed that a new face will debut at the end of the season and they'll be in cahoots with someone on the canvas. Johnson revealed, "It's a character we haven't met so far, and he is working with Warden James. We'll meet him in two weeks, in the finale." She also encourages viewers to "look for a wink in episode 12 from the warden. Look for it on the docks."

Another big mystery surrounding Alcatraz is what's hiding in the basement. Lilien said they always planned to open it by the end of the season, and they will. "Watch in a week, and we're going to enter that door. We're going to show you what's behind it. It's awesome. All of us were up there for the filming of that scene, and we all had goosebumps when we shot it."

What's up with Tommy Madsen's blood? And since Rebecca is his granddaughter, does she have the same condition? "Some of the questions about the silver will be answered in episode 13," said Johnson. "We'll learn a lot about the blood, the origins of the blood, and what it all means to the larger picture."

It sounds like one question will be answered and two more will be asked. But Johnson exclaimed, "It's a hell of a cliffhanger. We have a master plan. We do know where we're going."

Alcatraz airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
