1st trailer for Burton's Dark Shadows bizarrely brings on the funny

After months of anticipation, the first trailer for Tim Burton's upcoming gothic vampire flick Dark Shadows is in the wild. So how's it look?

The tone is set quickly with a Johnny Depp voiceover, letting us in on the origin of the main vamp, Barnabas Collins, and his triumphant return after being cursed by a witch.
The tone and style look good, and the soapy vibe feels faithful to the original 1960s Dark Shadows TV series on ABC. It's set in 1972—so it's technically a (quirky) vampire period piece—and it seems like that could be an interesting dynamic as Barnabas, as well as the modern audience, adjusts to the era.

Plus, the comedy is hitting on all cylinders. This movie is looking more and more like a really fun romp.

I'm curious to see how modern audiences will take to the concept, but it looks like Burton is at least having a ball putting this thing together.

What do you think? Does the trailer live up to the hype?
