D'oh! Simpsons fans break Guinness TV record with 86+-hour marathon

Most TV junkies have logged a long afternoon in front of the boob tube, be it catching up on DVDs or clearing the TiVo—but two buddies from California have raised vegging out to an art form.

West Coast natives Jeremiah Franco and Carin Shreve broke the Guinness world record for the longest period of consecutive TV viewing by watching 86 hours and 37 minutes of The Simpsons, in honor of the Fox series' upcoming 500th episode. Breaking that down further, these gentlemen spent more than three and a half days watching Homer and company get into trouble and make fart jokes. That is an obscene amount of television.

For setting the record, TV Guide reports the ambitiously lazy duo won $10,500 along with some Simpsons gear.

Oddly enough, The Simpsons unseated Jack Bauer for the prize—as the previous record was held by three guys who watched 86 hours of the Fox action thriller 24. But at least CTU's top agent got in on the Simpsons action in the 2007 episode "24 Minutes." So, yeah, it all comes full circle. Kind of.
