Refute of the Day: Blade Runner sequel producer again denies Harrison Ford's in it

It was only yesterday we were hearing rumors that Harrison Ford would be back for Ridley Scott's Blade Runner sequel, despite a producer's past claims that the flick would be Deckard-less. Well, now that same producer is speaking up again, and he's out to quash any rumors of Ford's return.

Andrew Kosove of Alcon Entertainment—the company that's bankrolling the Blade Runner project—finally got fed up with watching the Harrison Ford rumor spread yesterday and spoke to Deadline in an effort to stamp it down.

"It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner," Kosove said. "To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we're going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment."

So, rumor smashed, right? Oddly, maybe not, because Kosove does seem to be leaving an opening here. He made it clear to Deadline that he wasn't trying to disparage Ford; he just wanted to be clear that he hasn't been spoken to him about another Blade Runner.

"It's like asking if we're going to make the sky red or blue, there has been no discussion about it," he said.

So that's not an outright denial that Harrison Ford will ever be in the movie. What if, while they're breaking the story's back and all, they come up with a plot that requires the reappearance of Deckard? It could happen, but Kosove seems to be hinting the story will go another way.

"What Ridley does in Prometheus is a good template for what we're trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie."

Still, even Kosove is willing to leave the possibility of more Ford open, so another rumor about Ford's definite involvement could be right around the corner.

"In advance of knowing what we're going to do, I suppose you could say yes, he could," Kosove said when asked if Ford could return, "But I think it is quite unlikely."
