1st official Season 7 Who pic: Say hello (and goodbye) to the Ponds

Yesterday we brought you the first set pics from Doctor Who's upcoming seventh season, taken on location in Cardiff. Today, the BBC has released its first OFFICIAL pic of our beloved time-traveling trio.

Can we say the Doctor (Matt Smith), the Ponds (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) and that Big Blue Police Box have never looked better?

While we all expect Who's seventh season will tug at our tear ducts when we'll have to say some major sad goodbyes to both Amy and Rory (we don't expect a dry eye in the house, so you all better keep a stash of tissues close by), we'll also get to say hello to a brand-new, mysterious companion.

Here's the BBC's official filming announcement:

Filming has just started on Series 7 of Doctor Who in Cardiff.

This series will see the last days of the Ponds with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill returning for their final, rollercoaster voyage with the Doctor. Amy and Rory have been at the Doctor's side for more than two series but what will he do after their heartbreaking departure?

On returning for his third series as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith says: "It's thrilling and exciting to be back and working with two of my closest friends."

Karen Gillan adds: "It's just brilliant to be back on the TARDIS with Matt and Arthur for our craziest adventures yet."

Series 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when The Doctor meets a new friend.

Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year. Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes — each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you've never seen them before.

So far, the confirmed guest stars include David Bradley (better known as Argus Filch in the Harry Potter films), Rupert Graves and Mark Williams.

So there you have it!

Some new monsters, familiar foes, no pesky two-parters, 14 episodes instead of the usual 13 (hmmm, does that include the Christmas special? Probably. Maybe. So we guess it doesn't really count, right?) and Sherlock's own—and always awesome—Inspector Lestrade Rupert Graves on board in a guest-starring stint. (Steven Moffat, we heart you so much right now.) It doesn't get better than this. Or could it?

So are you guys excited for Doctor Who's seventh season? Now if we could only get our hands on our very own TARDIS and fast-forward to autumn already, it'd be timey-wimey peachy.
