TV THIS WEEK: Alcatraz, Being Human, Lost Girl premieres and more!

Powerful Mondays are back in more ways than one with new shows Alcatraz and Lost Girl, and returning favorite Being Human, kicking off the week. And FX's Archer returns to the animated spy game for a third season with Burt Reynolds ... yes, that Burt Reynolds.

Also this week, the Ghost Hunters try to help a tormented family, Face Off gets wet, it's 100 episodes for The Big Bang Theory, Bonnie reunites with her witchy mom on The Vampire Diaries, bad boy Jake is back on The Secret Circle, a Farscape favorite pops up on Chuck, Monroe gets in trouble with the creature community on Grimm, an evil villain returns on Fringe, someone wants to assassinate Arthur ... again on Merlin, Paul's visions continue to terrify on The Fades, Syfy gets a Snow Beast, and a mysterious stranger has Emma and Regina uneasy on Once Upon a Time.

Monday, Jan. 16


Alcatraz (Fox) 8 p.m. - "Pilot" and "Ernest Cobb"

Series premiere! In this new series from J.J. Abrams, in the 1960s 302 prisoners and guards mysteriously vanished from Alcatraz prison. The event was covered up and the prison was closed. Cut to today. When a San Francisco detective, Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones), begins investigating a murder, she ends up with an impossible suspect, a prison inmate from Alcatraz named Jack Sylvane (Jeffrey Pierce) who's supposedly been dead for decades but who's looking pretty lively and hasn't aged a day. Madsen joins forces with Alcatraz expert Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto (Jorge Garcia) as they try to track down Sylvane, only to learn that he isn't the only vicious criminal to somehow escape Alcatraz into the future. The series also stars Sam Neill as mysterious government agent Emerson Hauser, and Parminder Nagra as Hauser's associate, Lucy Banerjee.

Being Human (Syfy) 9 p.m. - "Turn This Mother Out"

Season-two premiere! The roomies are back, and somehow you can bet their lives aren't going to get any easier. Aidan tries to keep the vampire community from going off the deep end, ghost Sally discovers a new superpower, and werewolf Josh tries to deal with his inner beast while keeping his girlfriend happy. It's just another day in the neighborhood.

Lost Girl (Syfy) 10 p.m. - "It's a Fae, Fae, Fae World"

Series premiere! In this Canadian series, a young woman named Bo discovers she's a succubus and a member of the Fae race. Lots of adventure ensues as she learns the Fae come in two flavors, Light and Dark, and both of them want her to choose a side. Meanwhile, there are temptations in the form of a hot lady human doctor named Lauren and a smokin' Light Fae named Dyson. How's a girl to choose? The series stars Anna Silk as Bo, Ksenia Solo as Kenzi, Zoie Palmer as Lauren, and Kris Holden-Ried as Dyson.

Wednesday, Jan. 18



Ghost Hunters (Syfy) 9 p.m. - "Buyer Beware"

TAPS investigates a hotel in Naples, N.Y., that may be linked to a suicide, and they delve into the home of a couple who believe they are being tormented by a spirit in Gardner, Mass.

Face Off (Syfy) 10 p.m. - "Water World"

The contestants pay a visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and get what just might be the ultimate challenge ... create a creature whose makeup can stand up to being submerged in water.

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 8 p.m. - "The Recombination Hypothesis"

100-episode alert! Remember how Leonard and Penny use to ... you know? Well, things go full circle when Leonard asks Penny out on a date.

The Vampire Diaries (The CW) 8 p.m. - "The Ties That Bind"

Bonnie reunits with her mother (Persia White), whom she hasn't seen for 15 years, and Klaus continues his bitter negotiations with Stefan regarding his family's coffins. Meanwhile, Damon finds Alaric's pretty new friend Dr. Fell intriguing, and Tyler finally realizes that what everyone has been saying is true ... he has no free will when it comes to Klaus. Is that Jack Coleman we spy in the promo returning as Caroline's father?

The Secret Circle (The CW) 9 p.m. - "Witness"

He's baaaaack! Jake returns to give Cassie a dire warning that history just might repeat itself unless they can discover what happened 16 years earlier in the boat fire that supposedly killed her father. Meanwhile, Faye's getting in trouble again, this time involving one of Lee's friends.

Archer (FX) 10 p.m. - "The Man from Jupiter"

Season-three premiere! Burt Reynolds alert! Our favorite animated spy guy is back, and a Cuban hit squad is out to get him. Whatever! What's really important is that Mallory is dating Archer's hero, Burt Reynolds (voiced by ... Burt Reynolds, of course), and Archer is none too happy about it!

Friday, Jan. 20



Chuck (NBC) 8 p.m. - "Chuck Versus the Bullet Train"

Farscape alert! Sarah and Casey catch a Japanese bullet train to try and save a kidnapped Chuck from the villainous Nicholas Quinn. Meanwhile, Sarah's the you-know-what, a condition that could kill her, and Casey has a decision to make. Somewhere in the mix, Ben Browder, the star of Farscape and Stargate SG-1, will pop in a guest role. There's only one more two-episode night of Chuck left. The series finale is next week on Friday.

Grimm (NBC) 9 p.m. - "Of Mouse and Man"

Hank and Nick catch a gruesome murder that involves a sly snake and a timid mouse, and Monroe gets an upsetting message from the creature community.

Fringe (Fox) 9 p.m. - "Enemy of My Enemy"

While Peter is Over There, the Alt-Fringe division face an enemy they aren't familiar with, but one that he remembers all too well. Meanwhile, Walter discovers molecular gastronomy. What a terrifying thought!

Merlin (Syfy) 10 p.m. - "The Wicked Day"

Camelot prepares for Arthur's birthday celebration, but someone is planning on using the event to assassinate Arthur.

On the Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars (8 p.m.), the Jedi learn of a Separatist plot to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine and Obi-Wan goes undercover in prison to get information in "Deception." On the network's Generator Rex (8:30 p.m.), Rex's powers are interfered with in "Deadzone." And in the G4's Blade (11 p.m.), the vamp hunter teams up with a detective in "A Night for the Living, A Mourning for the Dead."




Saturday, Jan. 21



The Fades (BBC America) 9 p.m. - "Episode 2"

Things only get more interesting and scary as Paul's terrifying visions continue to get weirder and Neil goes underground to figure out a way to fight the Fades.

Snow Beast (Syfy) 9 p.m.

It's Syfy Saturday night at the movies! Smallville's John Schneider plays a scientist who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of the lynx in the Canadian wilderness, only to discover that there's one nasty predator stalking him and his research team. The film also stars Jason London, Danielle Chuchran, Paul D. Hunt and Kari Hawker.

Sunday, Jan. 22



Once Upon a Time (ABC) 8 p.m. - "7:15 A.M."

A new stranger in Storybrooke has Emma and Regina both feeling suspicious, and Mary Margaret and David struggle to keep their feelings a bay. Elsewhere in the fairy-tale world, Snow White and Prince Charming fight their own battle to stay apart while his wedding approaches with King Midas' daughter.
