That iconic Spidey/Gwen Stacy kiss? Garfield describes the smooch

One of the most iconic scenes in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002) was, without a doubt, the famous liplock shared by an upside-down Spidey (Tobey Maguire) and a very wet Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst). So are we in for yet another, similar smooch in The Amazing Spider-Man?

Yep, and Andrew Garfield tells all about how he practiced for it.

While talking about Amazing Spider-Man with The Times of India, Garfield provided a few details on how he practiced for the upcoming kiss his character would share with Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy—saying it would be as iconic as the Maguire/Dunst one:

"There is the first kiss between Peter and his love interest, Gwen Stacy. I got to practise for that—although on my own, I must add! I practised kissing on my hand, arms and in the mirror. I was just hoping I'll remember how to kiss when the moment comes and not fumble."

Um ... great, awesome, cool. Let's hope Garfield's practice pays off, shall we?

But speaking of Tobey Maguire's ''performance,'' how will the young British actor's take on Peter Parker/Spider-Man compare to Maguire's interpretation of our favorite web-slinger? Garfield had this to say:

''I love the work that Toby [sic] did. I've watched him in the earlier three movies as a fan and I feel that what he did was perfect. I would never even begin to compare myself with him. And I feel it's not the point either. This film is another chapter in the legacy of Spiderman and my responsibility was to remain true to the core of the character . I've tried to do it as best as I could.''

The Amazing Spider-Man will spin its web in theaters on July 3, 2012.
