Boardwalk Empire star Michael Shannon sure seems to be getting into the villain's role. Recently the Man of Steel's new General Zod made a rather startling—and likely very unpopular—confession. He doesn't like comics. At all.
"There are legions of fans salivating, who will literally spend the next year and a half looking at the clock, waiting for this movie. That's just the way it is. I don't know why. Me, personally, I'm not a huge fan. I can't even read comic books. I don't know which panel to look at next. I hardly ever know what any of the characters are talking about."
Oh, boy. Are comics that difficult to read? Is the allure of Superman that hard to discern? We would argue a rather stern, albeit professional "no." In most cases, you read a comic from left to right, Michael. It's almost like a real book! (Note: Comics are real books.)
As for the Superman himself, like many alien characters, it's Kal-El's isolation from (but constant attraction to) humanity that makes him so compelling and relatable.
Before Shannon could reveal any secrets behind the actual film, he caught himself and said "You know, I think I've already said too much. I don't want to be getting another one of those phone calls. I have to go back to work on this Monday ..."
Wise words, sir. Probably best to consider them next time you consider talking about why you don't "get" comics, too.
