Is Evil Dead cursed? Remake loses star just weeks after casting her

Well, that was quick: That remake of The Evil Dead that we've been hearing about for ages has lost its female lead just weeks after she signed on.

It was right after the start of the new year that Lily Collins was announced as the first cast member of the new Evil Dead, with the young actress slated to play Mia, one of the five friends who stumble upon that cabin in the woods and its dreaded contents.

But today Variety reporter Jeff Sneider posted on Twitter that Collins was out due to "a scheduling issue." The actress just completed work on Mirror, Mirror, one of two Snow White movies coming out this year, and has also reportedly been attached to an adaptation of the young adult fantasy novel The Mortal Instruments.

Although we've heard little about that project for a while now, it's speculated that the production could be finally starting up and throwing a wrench in Collins' plan to appear in The Evil Dead.

So now producer Sam Raimi and director Fede Alvarez have to start looking again—and the clock is ticking since The Evil Dead is due in theaters on April 12th, 2013. Maybe they can run the script through the word processor again and put Ash back in there?
