While the first Iron Man film was a near-perfect comic book movie adaptation, Iron Man 2 was ... well ... less awesome. So it's understandable that we're a bit worried that Iron Man 3 could turn into a complete dud. But if we believe Mr. Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., we may actually be getting one of the best comic book movies ever made.
This is what the actor told Omelete during a brief red-carpet interview for his movie Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:
"I think that we have an opportunity with the third Iron Man to make the best of the three, and maybe one of the better superhero movies that's ever been made. But I think we have to remember what made the first one good. It was very character-driven. It was very odd. It was kind of outrageous. And so I think we have to have the courage to trust that the audience is really kind of cool, and smart."
Only a month ago, Downey Jr. had proclaimed Drew Pearce's Iron Man 3 screenplay ''probably the best script I've read in five years.''
Is the actor tooting his own horn a bit too much, or is he really on to something and Iron Man 3 will turn out to be one the best comic book movies ever made? We sure hope so. More Iron Man and less Iron Man 2 is a good thing, don't you think?
