Even if you believe Lockout is a shameless ripoff of Escape From New York, you can't deny that this prison-in-space extravaganza packs some serious testosterone.
Luc Besson co-wrote the kinetic, hard-boiled adventure with a wink to John Carpenter's classic, and the new American trailer promises a bumpy ride to a maximum-security nuthouse.
Buckle up and check it out.
Guy Pearce, sporting antihero stubble and a bad attitude, stars as Snow, the loose cannon aimed at saving the president's daughter (Maggie Grace) from the clutches of an insane gang of arch-criminals aboard an orbiting Supermax. The old-school effects and raw tone give us hope that this homage to Kurt Russell could provide an adrenalized dose of awesomeness this spring.
Co-directed by Irishmen James Mather and Stephen St. Leger, it was originally titled MS One: Maximum Security and Section 8 and seems to be branded with a well-earned R rating.
Think a muscled-up Pearce will rescue the girl and the hearts of hardcore sci-fi fans or enter a decaying orbit of prison-flick cliches? Hey, at least he's not wearing an eyepatch!
Lockout goes into zero-gravity riot mode when it opens wide April 20, 2012.
